Distributions I have tried

As a follow up to my last post I thought it would be interesting to post a list of distributions I have tried before settling with the Ubuntu project: Damn Small Linux Kubuntu Xubuntu Mandriva OpenSuse Dream Linux Cent OS Linux Mint Puppy Linux Fedora PC-BSD I would choose OpenSuse as my second option for a solid desktop experience.

Why Ubuntu Linux?

If you have been wondering why I chose Ubuntu as my Linux distribution of choice here are a few of reasons why I am an advocate of this project. Ubuntu is sponsored by Canonical , a company founded by Mark Shuttleworth. Mark Shuttleworth was part of the Go Open Source initiative in South Africa five years ago which introduced me to the world of free and open source software. Ubuntu and its variants can be ordered online and delivered within a few weeks, free of charge, in South Africa. A service which helped me when I had no immediate access to the internet to download the ISO's The Ubuntu distribution was the first Linux distribution I ever tried as a result of this. Ubuntu made the transition from Windows very easy. Ubuntu will , in my opinion, make the Linux desktop a much more viable option for long time Windows users. That's it...those are a few main reasons I use Ubuntu.
